Hornbill is a SACCO management platform I designed and built from the ground up. It covers everything — member onboarding, share management, loans, repayments, and transaction history — across a NestJS API, React web dashboard, and Flutter mobile app.

Goal International needed a way for donors abroad to fund Ethiopian students directly. I built the platform end-to-end — Express API, Next.js frontend, and PayPal/Braintree payment integration — so donors could give and schools could receive without friction.

Finding reliable event vendors in Addis Ababa is mostly word-of-mouth. Nice Events is a marketplace that changes that — vendors list their services, clients browse and book. I designed the data model, built the API with Express and Prisma, and shipped the Next.js frontend.

I kept writing the same boilerplate every time I started a new Express project. So I built a CLI that reads a Prisma schema and generates typed routes, controllers, services, and validators automatically. Saves hours on every new project.
Practice
I like systems that are easy to explain and hard to break. Good software shouldn’t need a manual.
Before touching a keyboard, I want to understand what actually needs to happen and why. The code comes last.
Predictable data models, clear service boundaries, and no surprises at 2am. That's the goal.
States, errors, and actions should be obvious. If someone has to guess what the app is doing, something is wrong.
About
I’m a software engineer based in Addis Ababa. I work primarily in TypeScript, building APIs and backend systems that power web and mobile products. I gravitate toward the backend but I’m comfortable owning the full stack when the project calls for it.
I’ve worked with NestJS, React, Next.js, Flutter, MySQL, TypeORM, Prisma, and NGINX. Most of what I’ve shipped has been in the fintech and logistics space. If you have a project that needs a reliable backend engineer, I’d love to hear about it.
